Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Omani counterpart Badr al-Busaidi held talks on bilateral relations and regional developments, with discussions focusing on the safe passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the two ministers exchanged views on ensuring safe maritime passage through the strategic waterway in accordance with Article 5 of the US-Iran memorandum of understanding.
The talks come amid heightened regional tensions and growing attention toward the security of the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route for global energy shipments, particularly amid the United States' repeated violations and attacks on Iran.
During the discussions, al-Busaidi reaffirmed Oman's longstanding position of relying on diplomatic efforts to prevent escalation and enhance regional security.
The Omani foreign minister expressed hope that the regional security situation would improve through the full implementation of the memorandum of understanding, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
Araghchi arrived in the Omani capital, Muscat, on Saturday to discuss arrangements related to managing the Strait of Hormuz, as well as broader regional developments.
Earlier, the top Iranian diplomat asserted that the United States has failed to uphold its obligations under the memorandum of understanding, asserting that Iran has honored its commitments while the US Treasury violated Paragraph 9 of the agreement.
In a social media post on X, Araghchi said the breach by the US Treasury Secretary followed other violations and missteps by the United States.
"There can only be mutual compliance," he stressed.
On his part, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei denied reports claiming that Tehran had requested direct talks with the United States, while revealing that Iran had agreed to receive the international mediator in the Iranian capital to discuss current issues.
Addressing US violations, Baghaei said Washington had blatantly breached the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two sides by launching military attacks on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in addition to revoking the oil sanctions waiver and imposing new rounds of sanctions.
